# $USN & $sUSN

**Noon** issues two stablecoin-related tokens. This page explains what each is, how they differ, and how they relate.

{% hint style="info" %}
For the practical question of which to hold, see [Should you hold **$USN** or **$sUSN**?](/2.-usdusn-and-usdsusn/usdusn-or-usdsusn.md).
{% endhint %}

## **$USN**

**$USN** is Noon's **dollar-pegged stablecoin**, designed to hold a value of one US dollar. You can hold it, transfer it, and use it across deployed chains. **$USN** **does not earn yield from the protocol's returns**. **$USN** holders earn rewards, which can translate to **Noon**'s governance token.

**$USN** is backed by a **USD-denominated reserve**. Rather than sitting in cash, that reserve is deployed across diversified, income-generating strategies. This allows the protocol to pass yield to stakers.

The full set of strategies is documented in [**The Yield Engine**](/3.-the-yield-engine/overview.md).

## **$sUSN**

**$sUSN** is **staked** **$USN**. When you stake **$USN**, you receive **$sUSN**. **$sUSN** is the token through which protocol yield accrues over time.

Unstaking **$sUSN** back to **$USN** is subject to a **7 day cooldown**.

Of the protocol's distributable returns, **80%** flows to **$sUSN** holders.

## Deployments

**$USN** and **$sUSN** are deployed across multiple chains. Always **verify the canonical contract** for your chain on [**Contracts and addresses**](/6.-resources/contract-addresses-and-oracles.md) before interacting.
