The Opportunity

The Gap: Why Wealth Compounds Faster at the Top

Historically, there has been a fundamental gap in how wealth is generated.

At the core of institutional wealth sits a mechanism most retail investors never get to touch: Dual-Purpose Capital. This is money that performs two jobs simultaneously:

  1. Generates continuous yield (compounding value over time).

  2. Serves as liquid collateral (allowing you to borrow low-cost cash, take margin positions, or trade without selling the underlying asset).

When an asset does both jobs at once, it activates what Wall Street calls rehypothecation—the ability to recycle capital across the financial system. Rehypothecation acts as a continuous economic flywheel: it makes every dollar stretch further, lowers borrowing costs, and dramatically accelerates wealth creation.

Figure 1. Limitations of traditional retail money

For centuries, access to dual-purpose assets has been strictly gated. Banks, hedge funds, and ultra-high-net-worth individuals have used these flywheels to multiply fortunes. Traditional retail users, meanwhile, have been relegated to single-purpose assets: cash that sits idle in a bank earning negligible interest, or locked investments that cannot be easily used as collateral.

The Mass-Market Exception: Mortgages

The residential mortgage is the single mainstream exception that proves this rule. A mortgage allows a middle-class family’s primary asset—a home—to acquire dual-purpose characteristics: the house appreciates in value while simultaneously serving as collateral for low-cost, long-term credit.

It is no coincidence that homeownership is the primary driver of middle-class wealth in modern history. Yet mortgages come with severe friction: months of paperwork, high transaction fees, total illiquidity, and asymmetric liquidation risk.

Beyond real estate, everyday individuals have been completely locked out of efficient capital flywheels. Noon was built to bridge this structural divide.

The Bridge: Three Pillars of a True Digital Asset

Bridging this gap requires a stablecoin engineered from first principles around three non-negotiable pillars:

Figure 2. The three pillars

1. Transparent & Traceable

Key Idea: Public blockchains let us verify collateral risk instantly at zero cost. This speeds up borrowing flywheels and opens institutional-grade leverage to everyone.

Digital assets built on decentralized general ledgers hold a profound advantage over traditional fiat: absolute, real-time transparency.

In legacy finance, verifying collateral is slow, expensive, and opaque. Checking whether an asset is pledged elsewhere requires legal contracts, audit firms, and clearinghouses. Because this risk assessment carries massive operational overhead, institutions only offer high-efficiency lending to massive corporate accounts.

Public blockchains collapse verification costs to zero. When collateral is natively transparent on-chain, two major shifts occur:

  • A Faster Financial Flywheel: Lenders can inspect collateral balances, smart contract vaults, and existing encumbrances instantaneously. Combined with automated smart contracts, risk assessment becomes exact. Lenders can increase Loan-to-Value (LTV) ratios, narrow interest spreads, and minimize default drag.

  • Universal Access at Scale: Because real-time risk assessment costs virtually nothing, the flywheel no longer needs to be gated. A user holding $100 in digital assets can access the exact same collateral efficiency as a fund holding $100,000,000.

The First-Generation Stablecoin Problem

Early stablecoins made fiat dollars borderless and programmable, but they replicated the old banking bias:

  • Yield Hoarding: Issuers collected user cash, invested it in interest-bearing reserves (like U.S. Treasuries), and kept 100% of the yield for themselves.

  • Opaque Reserves: Many issuers still rely on stale, off-chain monthly attestations rather than continuous on-chain proof.

To power a true global flywheel, transparency cannot be a quarterly marketing promise—it must be hardcoded into the protocol.

2. Collateralized Across All Market Conditions

Key Idea: A yield asset is useless as collateral if its return collapses during a market downturn. Noon uses a dynamic, multi-strategy allocation engine across 7 distinct yield sources to deliver safe, persistent returns in any economic regime.

To serve as reliable, high-LTV collateral across money markets and trading venues, an asset must maintain stable underlying value and predictable, non-correlated yield across every market cycle.

If an asset yields high returns during a crypto bull market but drops to zero or negative yields in a bear market, decentralized money markets will slap severe haircuts on its collateral efficiency—or reject it entirely.

Figure 3. All-weather durable yield

Why Single-Source Yields Break

Most yield-bearing stablecoins rely on a single income stream that fails when macro conditions inevitably shift:

  • Crypto-Native Yields Only: Protocols relying purely on perpetual funding rates or DeFi borrowing demand thrive during bull markets, but yields collapse toward 0% (or turn negative) during bear market drawdowns.

  • Pure RWA Yields Only: Protocols tied exclusively to central bank benchmark rates (e.g., U.S. Treasuries) perform well when interest rates are elevated, but experience severe yield decay when central banks pivot and cut monetary rates.

Noon’s Dynamic Multi-Strategy Engine

Noon eliminates single-point-of-failure yield risk by treating return generation as an active, multi-asset allocation strategy. The protocol dynamically rebalances reserves across multiple core strategies, combining real-world asset (RWA) stability, crypto-native efficiency, and fixed-income predictability:

1. Real-World Assets & Institutional Credit (Macro Stability)

  • Short-Term U.S. T-Bills: Direct exposure to risk-free benchmark yields via liquid, tokenized short-term U.S. Treasury instruments, serving as the core risk-off baseline for the reserve.

  • Collateralized Loan Obligations (CLOs): Institutional investment-grade structured credit that provides enhanced floating-rate income protected by senior tranche subordination.

  • Private Credit: High-grade, real-world corporate loan facilities and receivables providing stable, non-correlated yield insulated from crypto market volatility.

2. Crypto-Native Market-Neutral Strategies (Bull Market Upside)

  • Funding Rate Arbitrage (Perpetual Futures): Executing delta-neutral basis trades by holding spot assets while shorting equivalent perpetual futures contracts, harvesting positive funding rate payments without price exposure.

  • Overcollateralized DeFi Lending: Supplying stable capital to premier, battle-tested money markets (such as Aave or Compound) during periods of high demand for leverage.

3. Fixed Yields & Capital Efficiency (Structured Yield Optimization)

  • Principal Tokens (PTs): Locking in guaranteed, fixed APYs by acquiring Principal Tokens from yield-stripping protocols (e.g., Pendle), insulating the portfolio against future rate cuts.

  • Recursive Yield Looping: Utilizing automated, risk-managed looping strategies (borrowing low-rate assets against higher-yielding collateral) to safely amplify base yields within pre-set risk parameters.

The Result: Durable All-Weather Performance

By auto-balancing between crypto-native funding rates, institutional private credit, fixed Principal Token yields, and government treasuries, Noon produces durable, non-volatile, all-weather yields.

This multi-layered structural backing ensures that $sUSN remains a trusted, high-grade collateral asset across money markets, DEXes, and lending venues worldwide, regardless of market conditions.

3. Distributed Fairly & Sustainably

Key Idea: Traditional protocols funnel profits to insiders. Noon returns 80% of raw protocol yields directly to stakers, while auto-funding insurance and operations.

Creating a yield-bearing stablecoin is only half the battle; the real difference lies in who gets paid.

In conventional corporate finance and early Web3 models, protocol revenues flow primarily to venture capital insiders, private equity, or centralized treasuries. The end users whose capital powers the system receive scraps.

Noon flips this model by establishing user-first value distribution mechanics:

Figure 4. Noon's return distribution
  • 80% Direct to $sUSN Holders: The vast majority of organic returns compound directly into the value of $sUSN.

  • 10% to the Noon Insurance Fund: Generates a real-time safety buffer against strategy execution or smart contract risks. Unused insurance reserves eventually decay into rewards for long-term governance stakers ($sNOON).

  • 10% to Self-Sustaining Operations: Covers protocol upkeep, continuous audits, and core engineering—eliminating the need for predatory token emissions or constant capital raises.

The Noon Synthesis: Unlocking Dual-Purpose Liquidity

Noon unites transparency, all-weather yield, and fair distribution into a two-token architecture designed for maximum flexibility:

Figure 5. Noon's token architecture

By separating liquid settlement from yield accumulation, Noon lets users choose their exact focus:

  1. $USN (Dollar Settlement Asset): Built for transactional speed, everyday liquidity, and DeFi integration. Holders who require instant, un-staked liquidity forgo raw yield in exchange for boosted allocations of the $NOON governance token.

  2. $sUSN (Dual-Purpose Yield Asset): When $USN is staked into $sUSN, it begins accruing protocol yields. Because unstaked $USN holders forego raw yield, the yield pool is concentrated directly into $sUSN—boosting the effective APY for stakers. Most importantly, $sUSN remains fully composable: you can hold $sUSN to earn yield while simultaneously using it as collateral on money markets to borrow capital.

Why Noon Wins

Noon eliminates the forced trade-off between stability and yield, or liquidity and growth.

By building on public, auditable smart contracts, executing all-weather yield strategies, and returning protocol value to actual users, Noon unlocks the capital flywheel once reserved for institutions—providing a borderless, inflation-hedged dollar engine for everyone.

The thinking behind Noon's design is explored in more depth on the Noon blog.
